 Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (POABI) is the subsidiary of Port of Antwerp-Bruges that specialises in global port development projects and port-related consultancy in regions such as the Middle East, India, the African continent, Brazil and South-East Asia. POABI is also active as a co-shareholder of the port of Duqm in the Sultanate of Oman and of Porto do Açu in Brazil. In addition, Port of Antwerp-Bruges International also manages the port of Cotonou in Benin and is studying several new opportunities.
In order to carry out these projects, POABI makes use of the extensive expertise and know-how available in the port of Antwerp and enters into specific partnerships.
 
POABI also supports the development of the APEC Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre. APEC is an international training institute for port and maritime affairs that focuses on knowledge transfer to professionals. The training courses offer an ideal mix of theory and practice, whereby port professionals can update their expertise on port, maritime and logistics issues in an interactive manner. APEC is a window on the world that connects people and expertise from the four corners of the globe.

Short description

Do you have a keen eye for process optimizations in a port environment? As senior advisor port operational excellence, you will have the opportunity to take operational and logistics processes in Tanzanian ports to the next level, with direct impact on their position in international trade. An international job in an exciting region awaits you! 

Your challenge

You will play a central role in redesigning and transforming port operations and associated processes in Tanzania, with the largest ports being Dar Es Salaam, Mtwara, Tanga, Mwanza and Kigoma. Your duties will focus on both short-term improvements and long-term transformations, with the objective of improving the efficiency, infrastructure and sustainability of Tanzania's ports.

A summary of your duties and responsabilities

  • Identify bottlenecks in current operational processes within Tanzania's ports, such as waiting times, transshipment efficiency, safety and sustainability
  • Develop and implement data-driven improvement plans to address these bottlenecks and increase efficiency
  • Optimizing logistics chain processes within and around the ports, including storage, transshipment, and transport connections to the hinterland
  • Function as a strategic sparring partner for the Director General and Adjoint Director General of TPA
  • Prepare and present recommendations and reports to the Executive Committee aimed at strategic decision-making and implementation of improvements.
  • Consult with local and regional players to realize joint improvement initiatives
  • Coordinating transformation projects aimed at redesigning operational port processes, or digitalization projects such as terminal management systems or transparent tracking of cargo flows
  • Coordinate collaborations between TPA, POABI, Enabel and other international and local partners.
  • Function as a connecting link between various stakeholders, including port authorities, shipping companies, freight forwarders, logistics service providers and government agencies

Your profile

  • You have a master's degree in logistics, supply chain management, maritime economics or another relevant field
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of work experience in a similar position within the maritime sector. International experience, preferably in Africa is an additional asset
  • You have the necessary expertise in the following areas : process optimization and operational efficiency in ports, project management of large-scale transformation projects, consulting at board level
  • You enjoy analyzing processes and identifying bottlenecks. Based on this you formulate possible improvements and process optimizations
  • You know how to smoothly establish contacts with various stakeholders, adapting your style to the interlocutor and switching smoothly between active listening and persuasion
  • You have the necessary experience in leading complex projects and coordinating and managing international teams
  • You are able to work in an international context while showing respect for local customs and norms
  • You speak and write English fluently. Basic knowledge of Swahili is a plus.
